H.E.A.R. Bible Journaling

H.E.A.R. journaling promotes reading the Bible with a life-transforming purpose. This method will guide you in understanding and responding to God’s Word while creating an atmosphere to hear God speak.

Set a time to study the Word and get ready!

Before reading the text, pause and genuinely ask God to speak to you. It is crucial that we seek God’s guidance to understand His Word. (Psalm 119:18)

How to complete a HEAR Journal

Write out the following each time you study a passage.
H (Highlight):
The name of the book.
The passage of scripture.
Chapter and verse numbers that speak to you.
A title to describe the passage.
E (Explain):
Explain what the text means. Here are a few helpful questions: Why was it written? To whom was it originally written? How does it fit with the verse before and after it? Why did the Holy Spirit include this passage? What is He intending to communicate?
A (Apply):
This is the step that draws you to God and uncovers how He is speaking to you. Here are questions to help: How can this help me? What does this mean today? What would the application of this verse look like
in my life? What does this mean to me? What is God saying to me?
Challenge yourself to write 2-5 sentences about how the text applies to your life.
R (Respond):

This may take many forms. A call to action, describing how you will be different, what you will do as a result of studying this passage... You might write a prayer asking God to help you in an area directly related to the passage.
